Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes a sun like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you I have been changed for good. --Wicked
It all started at age two... I was introduced to a little bundle who I didn't know at the time would be so special to me. At the time, seeing that golden blonde hair and little face meant one thing, I had a little sister. I was no longer the baby... and I loved it! As the years went by, we shared many magical days playing indians, cats, princesses and whatever else our imaginary world could create!
She was my partner in growing up... the girl who would turn into a woman with me. Be there for me through every moment, and will continue to be. I am so grateful you're my sister and best friend. And I have a question for you...
But I'll get to that later.
It was Christmas Eve, at Mom Mom and Dad Dad's celebrating the arrival of Jolivanna. Under the grand piano two blonde little girls sat singing Christmas carols. Both were about nine and ten at the time... wearing festive dresses of red and green. Even then, these two were the best of friends.
It wasn't until middle school that I'd realize how special you are to me. The two of us would spend all night talking, laughing, and making crazy videos. All of high school, you were my cousin, but doubled as my best friend, and tripled as my sister. And continue to be that today! I love that you're my best friend! So, with all of that said, I also have a question for you...
Wait, I'm not finished yet.
I found out that I was going to your house... no wait, it was the mall... We were going to the mall! You were the girl I never thought I'd get to hang out with-- the cool girl at history coop. You always wore the coolest bell bottom jeans and silver hoop earrings. But I got to go to the mall with you. I remember laughing at every thing you would say.
A belting, roaring laughter that made our mall trip so fun. You had a joy that was so contagious. We struck silly poses in the photo booth. And somehow after that day, we became the best of friends. Salt and Pepper. Inseparable. Panda and Beatle. "When you're the best of friends, having so much fun together." And that has never changed! Our roaring laughter has turned into roaring joy. Oh, I am so blessed you are my best friend! Oh... and I have a question for you.
And.. I will ask later.
What is this feeling? So sudden. So new. I felt the moment I laid eyes on you. Oh my! Now, let's go way back to elementary school. It was Celebration East... in the hallway of Penn State College, running after a little blonde boy with a squeaky voice. "Seany Boy!!" Two little girls, ran after their fellow friend taunting him with the same name "Seany Boy!!!" That poor boy, running away from two flirts. How did I know then that we'd be friends later in life?
Maybe it was when I slept over at your house for the first time a few years later... in your queen sized bed. I remember jumping onto the bed at the same time as you and hearing a THUMP! We broke your bed. I remember dying of laughter until we were both in tears. That was us. One word. One movement. One noise... they would all send us into a frenzy of outrageous laughter. You are my Irish twin, Elphaba, and best friend! And I happen to have a question for you.
I still have more to say though.
I remember hearing about you from an older brother who was head over heels after a long weekend of Ring Dance fun with this gorgeous brunette in NYC. All I could think was, "I can not wait to meet her!" And sure enough, only a few months later, you stepped into my life. I slowly learned how you would bring board games and family time back into my family.
How you would go out of your way to include my sister and me in any event or activity that would come up. How you would steal the heart of my brother and become his perfect match. And how you would become my older sister! I am so grateful for how you have such a caring heart and are a wonderful friend to me. I also have a question for you.
Wait no!! I'm not done yet.
I was nervous. Beyond nervous. I was meeting the sister. My heart pounded. I desperately wanted to impress. However, all my nervous subsided the second I met you. You opened your arms for a welcoming and friendly hug and I instantly knew I had nothing to fear. You have from the beginning made me feel part of your family. Ah! All the fun I've had this year with you.
Watching the Bachelorette and Bachelor, having far too much fun with our men, and our fantastic conversations and laughter. Thank you for allowing me to steal your little brother but also thank you for becoming a best friend along the way! I am so excited to be the little sister you never had. Looks like your mama didn't need to buy you that piano after all. Oh, but I have a question for you.
Okay, you've all been patient. So here it is...
I'm in love, and you know that
To the man of my dreams
And that's the fact.
He asked for my hand
And I said yes
So now I get to
Wear a white dress
With family and friends
On one special day
I'd really love your help, okay?
On this day
I will say "I do!"
Now it's your turn
Please say it to!
